Adoption Stories

An Adoptive Mom

Thirteen years ago Jennifer came into our family through adoption. Joe, my husband, and I waited many years for this to happen. Rosie, Jennifer’s birthmother, was able to choose us by reading many letters that adoptive parents had written. Rosie’s decision was made because of the similarities between us, Rosie and Jennifer’s birthfather.

Adoption has been a very healthy choice for Jennifer as well as our whole family. We have always told Jennifer that she was adopted and answered every question she has posed about her adoption, Rosie, or her birthfather. It has never been a secret. When Jennifer was three, we met Rosie for the first time at a mutual site. It was a very rewarding time. Rosie had married and started her own family. Jennifer had a sister which she thought was great. Over the years our relationship with Rosie and her family has grown. We talk to each other on the telephone and spend at least one weekend a year together at each other’s home. Adoption for Jennifer has been healthy. There are no secrets. She knows Rosie and her sisters as well as her birthfather and his family. She loves them and will always keep in touch.

Rosie’s decision to give Jennifer up for adoption was a very mature decision. It was the best decision for Rosie, Jennifer’s birthfather and our family. Jennifer will always treasure the large extended family that she has and its uniqueness.
