Adoption Stories
Lynn's
Story
For
as long as I can remember, I have known that I was adopted. It was never
a great secret but always a source of blessing in my life. My mother
explained to be that my birth mother was not going to be able to take
care of me, but she loved me enough to let my parents (who desperately
wanted a baby but could not have one of their own) adopt me. My parents
had maturity, marital stability, Christian faith, financial security,
a strong desire for a family, and an abundance of love when I came into
their home. I profoundly benefited from their love and preparedness.
My brother and sister were adopted too, and we have experienced the
fun and friction of typical siblings and have remained close in adulthood.
I came to know the Lord, Jesus Christ,
as my Savior when I was nine, but it was not until later that I had
the best understanding of my salvation. When I read Ephesians 1:4-5
and found my salvation explained in the picture of being adopted into
God's family. My adoption has framed what I know of love (even sacrificial
love), family and even my entire outlook on life. I praise the Lord
that I have had the gift of adoption twice over.
I have always had a great sense of God's purpose in my life. The Lord
knew me in my mother's womb and had a plan for me. Psalms 139 says,
"I am fearfully and wonderfully made…" It is no accident
I was born on my mother's birthday. It is no accident that my father
is a physician, and I, too, have become a physician. Interestingly enough,
I am married to a wonderful man who also was adopted. We now have four
children of our won. Both of our sets of parents, who could not have
children of their own, are now awesome, fun-loving grandparents.
If I could meet my birth mother, I would
thank her for her tough decision of love in considering what was best
for me. This is what makes a real mother. I am a daughter, sister, wife,
mother, aunt, friend, and physician, all because she chose well.
