Adoptive Families
The families who adopt through APO are Christian couples who have been married for at least three years. One of them commits to being a stay-at-home parent (working no more than 20 hours per week outside of the home) until the child reached kindergarden. Before acceptance into APO's program, each family undergoes extensive screening to include: FBI background checks, financial stability, health screening, motivations to adopt, reference checks, etc. and they attend many hours of adoption and parenting education.
After an adoptive couple has attended APO's 2 day Adoption Education Seminar, they complete an application and begin the Home Study Process. This investigation process typically takes several months. If they are approved after the home study, they create a "Life Book" which is a scrap book used as their first introduction to birth families. The Life Book includes written work and photographs of the prospective adoptive family, their home, pets, hobbies, relatives, etc. APO clients who are considering adoption for their child can view Life Books at the APO office. These are available to be checked out overnight.
Prospective Adoptive Families who are intersted in adopting a child through APO should view the Information Packet on our adoption web site: www.AggielandAdoptions.org
