Aggieland Pregnancy Outreach, Inc. consists of three main programs
- Support to women and men experiencing unplanned pregnancies
- Adoption Services
- Outreach to Teen Parents
Our desire is to see that babies are raised in families that are ready and prepared for them.
Below is a list of services offered in support of women experiencing unplanned pregnancies and these services extend to the fathers as well and are provided free of charge at all times.
Contact us to tell us of your unique situation. Many women we help don't even feel that they"need" anything, but after hanging out with Kim, Karla, Katie or Don, they realize that was just what they needed!
We will meet with you one on one to provide guidance as you work through pregnancy related issues.
We will help you find a professional counselor, if you are in need, to help with problems that might not be related to your pregnancy.
Resources for Medical Care
We will guide you as you discover what type of medical insurance coverage you have.
If you do not have medical insurance, we will help you through the process of applying for Medicaid.
If you are not eligible for Medicaid, and if you are making an adoption plan for your baby, we will reimburse you for your medical costs after your baby has been placed with the adoptive parents.
We regret that APO is not financially capable of paying the medical costs for those who choose to parent their baby.
We encourage all birthmothers to attend our support group meetings. Even if you do not wish to participate in the discussions, you can still find great strength from meeting others who are in similar circumstances and from hearing what helped them through their difficult times.
We also offer a class for the birthfathers in attendance on Thursday evenings.
Mama Club is an outreach program for teen mothers hosted by Aggieland Pregnancy Outreach, Inc and Young Life of the Brazos Valley. "Club" meets Thursday nights during the school year. Read more about it!
If you have no source of transportation, APO's Transportation Volunteers may be able to take you to doctors appointments, dental appointments, support group meetings, etc.
You must give our Transportation Coordinator one week's notice before you need the ride.
Child Birth Classes
For those who do not want to attend child birth classes at the hospital with other couples, you can receive instruction through APO.
We provide counseling and literature about adoption to teach you how adoption plans work. Our desire is to help you make an informed choice as you plan for your child's future.
If you want to make a plan of adoption for your child, we will guide you through the entire adoption process. APO offers "Open Adoption" which allows you to choose the adoptive family that seems right to you. You will be allowed to view the Life Books of our adoptive families. You may choose to meet some of the families before you make a final decision. You may choose to maintain contact with your child and the adoptive family through the years if you want.
Just talking about adoption does not legally obligate you to follow through with an adoption plan. You are not bound by any law until after you sign legal papers which terminate your parental rights. Texas state law will not allow you to sign those papers until the baby is at least 48 hours old.
After your child has been placed with the adoptive family, APO remains part of your support system. You are encouraged to attend support group as often as you want, and to come for individual counseling as you walk through the next phase of the adoption process.
APO gives you an opportunity to find wholeness in a secure and confidential environment.
