How Can I Know God?
If you think back
to the stories you may have heard or read about the Garden of Eden,
where God created Adam and Eve, you will see that God created them
to have a relationship with Him. (Genesis
2:8-3:21) The Bible says that He actually talked with them and
walked with them, provided every food they
would need and the relationship was so pure that they didn’t
even realize they were naked. However, God did not make them like
robots - programmed to do everything He said. He gave them the choice
of loving and obeying Him. When Eve, and subsequently Adam, disobeyed
God by believing Satan and eating the "apple," their whole
world changed because, by God’s nature, He cannot have sin in
His presence. So their disobedience created a separation from the
presence of God and their relationship with God.
The penalty for
disobeying God (sinning) is death. (Romans 6:23) God, however, in
His loving kindness (mercy), still desired a relationship with man
- His creation. So, He created a system of payment for our sin. He
required a blood sacrifice as payment for sin. The person who committed
an offense could take an unblemished animal – with no defects
or injuries (perhaps a sheep, goat or cow.) That person would lay
his hands on the animal and symbolically transfer his sin or disobedience
to that animal and then sacrifice it (kill it) before the altar of
God. To provide this sin payment for us, God sent His son - Jesus
Christ to come
to earth in the form of a man, still having the fully divine nature
of God. When Jesus was crucified on the cross, all of our sin was
transferred to Him by God and Christ became the ultimate, pure, perfect
sacrifice and total payment for our sin. The Bible in John 3:16 says,
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."
The
following verses from the Bible give more explanation:
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans
3:23
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal
life in Christ Jesus His Son.” Romans
6:23
· “For while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. ”
Romans 5:8
· “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive
us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” I
John 1:9
· “To as many as received Him, to them He gave the right
to be called children of God, even to those who believe in His name.”
John 1:12
· “It is by grace you have been saved through faith, and
that not of yourselves it is the free gift of God, not as a result of
works so that no man should boast.”
Ephesians 2:8-9
· “I (Jesus) came that they might have life and have it abundantly.”
John 10:10
You may feel that
in the midst of an unplanned pregnancy your life is anything but good
right now, but you can find a great source of comfort
when you put your hope in Jesus. He knows you inside and out and He
knows your baby.
Psalm 139:15-17
says, "My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret,
and skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth; Your eyes have
seen my unformed substance, and in Your book were all written the
days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them.
How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God. How vast is the
sum of them!"
Being
a good person does not make you a Christian and does not get you into
heaven. Going to church and praying alot does not get you into heaven
either. Look again at Ephesians 2:8-9 above. There is nothing
we can do to earn salvation. We can only have a relationship with God
by believing that Jesus is the Son of God, that He came to earth in
the form of a man, that He died on the cross in our place knowing that
we are the ones who deserve death.
If
you trust in the death of Jesus for your salvation, you can stand right
before God. Then, when God looks at you, He sees you as cleansed by
the blood of Jesus - righteous in every way.
“He
made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might
become the righteousness of God in Him.”2 Corinthians 5:21
Do
you think that God could never forgive you?
Do
you feel unworthy of unconditional love?
People
who do not know God feel their past is totally unforgivable. They wonder
how anyone could ever love them. The truth is that God will not hold
your choices against you or what you have done in the past, if you will
come to Him alone. God still loves you. He wants to
be your perfect father, friend and your counselor. All He asks from
you is that you ask for His forgiveness by trusting that Jesus' death
on the cross as the only payment for your actions. He will then fill
you with His Holy Spirit who gives you power for living your life in
a God-honoring manner.
Ezekiel
36:26 “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you,
I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of
flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees
and be careful to keep my laws.”
If
you would like a relationship with God through Jesus Christ you can
pray to Him right now where ever you are.
"Behold,
I (Jesus) stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and
opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and
he with Me" Revelation 3:20
If
you ask Him, Jesus, by His Holy Spirit, will come and live within your
heart.
Here
is an idea of what you might pray:
Dear
Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. Thank you for dying on the cross for
my sins. I gratefully accept Your free gift of forgiveness and eternal
life and ask You to come into my life and make me a new person. Thank
You. Amen.

If you have prayed this prayer, welcome to the Kingdom! Tell a Christian
friend or call us here at Aggieland Pregnancy Outreach. We want to share
in your good news. We will meet with you, if you desire, to talk about
this wonderful life you can experience. We can give you some ideas of
things you can read to help you learn more about God. One good place
to start learning about Jesus Christ is to open a Bible and read the
book of John. The Holy Spirit will help you understand the Scriptures
as never before.
